Ely Greenstone Public Art is a non-profit arts organization whose goal is the enhancement of life through art and to encourage artists of all ages. It offers art classes to children and adults, holds juried art exhibits and beautifies Ely's public areas with murals and sculpture.

Our yearly schedule includes:

  • Late January - Early February: free Snow Carving Class for amateurs in Whiteside Park sponsored by Ely Greenstone Public Art, taught by Mike Sinesio as part of the Ely Winter Festival. Participants are asked to bring garden and hand tools from home.
  • January - Sixth grade Washington School students have a special art project, sponsored by Ely Greenstone Public Art and first initiated in 2006 at the request of the PTO.  Greenstone hires an instructor and pays for supplies for the classes, which supplement the school’s programming.
  • June - Children’s Art Camp is set for June 21-23, 2010 at Miners Dry in the Pioneer Mine Complex. Download the Children's Art Camp sign up formGet more information.
  • July - Greenstone Juried Art Show and Sale held July 17-20, 2010, kicks off with a Preview Gala on Saturday, July 17,
    Public Opening Sunday10-4 p.m. FREE admission
    Monday & Tuesday 9-noon  FREE admission

  • Ongoing - Honoring Ely’s Mining History - Miners Memorial Sculpture has raised over $6,000 in donations so far. The names of 213 men who died in Ely mines have been identified. Grants are being written to accomplish the project.

While Greenstone does not have a membership category, it does have a hard-working board and we treasure the continued support of the community!  If you are interested in teaching an art class or volunteering for any of our classes or events, please contact us.

Miners Memorial fund drive begins

To honor the men who gave their lives to extract the needed iron ore to build America in time of peace and time of war, a Miners Memorial is being planned for the historic Pioneer Mine site. It will be located near the Shaft House, across the road from Grand Ely Lodge.
